Russia: A History
Russia is currently the largest country in the world. So big, in fact, that it has a colossal 9 time zones and approximately 120 rivers, weaving in and out of each other. Despite the size of this country, Russia ironically only has 143 million inhabitants! During the war, Russia joined the allies to fight against Germany and Japan. Finally, they emerged victorious from the battle field. This major section of the world was also the first ever country to send a man into space. This considerable achievement took place in 1968. In Siberia, the northern part of Russia, they used troikas to get around- sledges that are pulled by horses- very different to the elaborate Moscow Metro which has paintings and chandeliers. Eventually, St. Basil’s Cathedral with its weirdly shaped domes is a major landmark in Russia
Major cities in Russia are: St. Petersburg, Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
